To my Best Friend on her 40th Birthday

I’d like to dedicate this rhyme
To a special friend of mine,
Jennifer, who as you know,
Has just attained the big four-o.
With tastes I would describe as fine
Jen thinks diamonds are divine,
With Chanel bag, Louboutin shoes
And Champers as her choice of booze.
She loves to laugh, and (as I do)
Jen likes a little drinkipoo.
When things are tough we always find
That chatting with a glass of wine
Will always make us both less weary
And altogether much more cheery.
A generous and thoughtful pal
Jen is quite the caring gal,
Especially if you are single
And Jenny thinks you ought to mingle!
I’d like to thank my bestest mate
For helping me to find a date
For all the laughter that we’ve shared
For listening to problems aired
For fantasising that she’ll marry
Robbie if she can’t have Gary!
So, Happy Birthday Mrs C
With lots of love to you, from Me.

  Happy 60th Birthday Mum

In Bournemouth town there lives a mother
Superior to any other.
Sixty years of age is she,
Though looking more like twenty-three,
The secret to her youthful glow
Is golf and gym and veg, you know.
Yes, Beryl has that mystic art
Of always looking very smart.
Her hair: perfection on a head
As soon as she gets out of bed.
The home immaculately neat
(As long as Colin wipes his feet.)
But anyone who crosses Beryl
Is truly in a state of peril.
For Mrs N has such a glare
You really wish you were not there!
In fact, you’d very likely say
That lady’s like a Milky Way:
A firm and solid outer part
With soft marshmallow at the heart.
She’s the lynchpin, axis, core
The lighthouse guiding you to shore,
The rock that’s there whatever weather,
And keeps the family together.
So Happy Birthday Mrs N
Beloved Wife and Mother, Nana, Friend.

  Happy 90th Birthday Janna

To celebrate your ninetieth year
We like to tell you Janna, dear
You’re the rock that keeps us grounded
On you our family is founded.
Your sense of humour, all agree
Makes you lovely company.
I do not think I have to speak
About your independent streak;
No lady could be any fonder
Of her dear old M reg Honda.
The garden gives you great delight
It seems you’re out there day and night,
Whiskey keeps your liver kicking
Crosswords keep your brain a-ticking,
You read the Telegraph for news
And all of us respect your views
This may be ‘cos you’re young at heart
With youthful figure, always smart.
Your common sense advice, we find
Is always thoughtful, frank and kind.
Like the roots that anchor trees
Like the queen who rules her bees
You’re the matriarch, the soul
Who makes our family feel whole.
So Happy Birthday Janna, cheers
To ninety very special years.
